Demystifying Sun Salutations with Youla Faita

Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) is a fundamental sequence of postures to many methods of asana practice. Originally practiced as a salutation to the Divine, Surya Namaskar is an excellent way to begin an asana session as it strengthens, energises and balances the body, mind and breath.

In this workshop, we will break down each asana that forms the namaskar sequence; explore the links between them; learn safe transitional movements; develop an understanding of alignment; learn modifications to suit all levels and explore the conscious connection between breath and movement. We will specifically focus on three forms: Surya Namaskar A, B and the classical salutations. The session will offer you a strong foundation and understanding of this energetic sequence helping you to deepen your practice.

Language is a very powerful adjustment tool in yoga. There is a lot of emphasis on manual adjustments. However, language is an incredibly valuable instrument to enrich our yoga teaching. In this workshop, we will explore how you can find the capacity of enhancing your teaching through language and how to tap into that pool of words within yourself and your own practice, in order to add texture and depth to the classes you teach.

Self Care: A Teacher’s Practice

Self-care: a teacher’s practice – 22 March 2-5:30pm
Do you feel that you are becoming depleted from your teaching and that it is hard to fit in your own self-practice on a regular basis? Does most of your self-practice go into preparing classes for your students at the expense of your own practice? Do you feel the need to master the “fancy” postures just because you are a teacher?
Yoga is a nurturing and healing practice and the same applies to us teachers. As we increase the number of classes we teach, our practice needs to change to meet our physical, mental and energetic requirements. It can be hard to find the right balance in our own practice. In this workshop, we will be exploring what a “teacher’s practice” means and how to tailor our self-practice to our true needs, with love and self-care.

Lesson Planning: The Perfectly Balanced Class

Lesson planning: the perfectly balanced class Friday May 17th 2019 2-6pm

A balanced class will have texture and layers to it, that go beyond the simple sequencing of postures. In this workshop, we will look at what additional aspects we can weave into our classes to give them more substance and enhance the experience of the yogis attending our classes:
  • Theme building
  • Integrating aspects of yoga philosophy and psychology
  • Weaving stories into our class theme
  • Sharing inspiration and inspiring our students
  • Sources of inspiration
  • Supporting our student’s growth and practice through themed teaching
